Practice Questions
Concept Explanation
Pie charts show parts of a whole as sectors. The full circle = 360° or 100% of the total.
How to Read Pie Charts
- Each sector’s angle or percentage represents its share.
- All sectors together sum to 360° or 100%.
Key Formulas
- Angle = (value ÷ total) × 360°.
- Value from angle = (angle ÷ 360) × total.
- Percentage = (value ÷ total) × 100.
Example
Sectors 90, 120, 150 (total 360). First sector angle = (90/360) × 360° = 90°.
Common Trap
Similar-looking slices may differ if the chart uses an exploded (separated) sector—always use numbers or angles.
-
Q1 EasyTwo sectors are 20% and 30%. The third is 50%. On total 1000, the largest sector is:Explanation50% of 1000 = 500. Hence the answer is 500.
-
Q2 EasySector X = 24% and Sector Y = 36%. Sector Y exceeds X by what percentage points?Explanation36% − 24% = 12 percentage points. Hence the answer is 12.
-
Q3 EasyTotal = 600; sector B = 150. B’s percentage share is:Explanation(150/600) × 100 = 25%. Hence the answer is 25%.
-
Q4 EasyFour equal sectors in a pie chart. Each sector angle is:Explanation360°/4 = 90° each. Hence the answer is 90°.
-
Q5 EasyThree sectors are 25%, 35% and 40%. The 35% sector of total 800 is:Explanation0.35 × 800 = 280. Hence the answer is 280.
-
Q6 EasyA sector is 15% of Rs. 2000 lakh. Its value is:Explanation0.15 × 2000 = 300 lakh. Hence the answer is Rs. 300 lakh.
-
Q7 EasyPie sectors: A = 90, B = 120, C = 150 (total 360). Angle for A is:Explanation(90/360) × 360° = 90°. Hence the answer is 90°.
-
Q8 MediumSector angles: 60°, 90°, 120°. Remaining sector angle is:Explanation360° − (60 + 90 + 120) = 90°. Hence the answer is 90°.
-
Q9 MediumA 72° sector out of total Rs. 500 lakh represents:ExplanationValue = (72/360) × 500 = 100 lakh. Hence the answer is Rs. 100 lakh.
-
Q10 MediumSector P = 108° on total 900. Value of P is:Explanation(108/360) × 900 = 270. Hence the answer is 270.
-
Q11 MediumSectors 100, 140, 160 (total 400). Ratio of smallest to largest is:Explanation100 : 160 = 5 : 8. Hence the answer is 5 : 8.
-
Q12 MediumTotal 480; a 120° sector value is:Explanation(120/360) × 480 = 160. Hence the answer is 160.
-
Q13 HardTotal 720; sectors in ratio 1 : 2 : 3. The middle sector value is:ExplanationParts 1+2+3=6. Middle (2 parts) = (2/6) × 720 = 240. Hence the answer is 240.
-
Q14 HardA 45° sector represents Rs. 50 lakh. Total amount is:ExplanationTotal = 50 × (360/45) = 50 × 8 = 400 lakh. Hence the answer is Rs. 400 lakh.
-
DS1 Easy
What is the angle of a sector worth 90 out of total 360?
Statement ISector value = 90 and total = 360.
Statement IIThe sector is one-fourth of the pie.
ExplanationEach alone: angle = (90/360) × 360° = 90°. Answer: D. -
DS2 Easy
What is the percentage share of a Rs. 150 lakh sector in total Rs. 600 lakh?
Statement ISector = Rs. 150 lakh.
Statement IITotal = Rs. 600 lakh.
ExplanationNeed both: (150/600) × 100 = 25%. Answer: C.
-
DS3 Medium
What is the value of a 120° sector when total = 480?
Statement ICentral angle = 120°.
Statement IITotal of all sectors = 480.
ExplanationNeed both angle and total: (120/360) × 480 = 160. Answer: C. -
DS4 Medium
What is the remaining sector angle if three angles are 60°, 90° and 120°?
Statement IThe three angles sum to 270°.
Statement IIThe pie has four sectors.
ExplanationStatement I alone: remaining = 360° − 270° = 90°. Answer: A.
