Do alphabet and number series before this.

Concept Explanation

Alphanumeric series mix letters and numbers in one term. The rule may apply to the whole token (move the letter and change the number together) or to separate parts (letter follows one rule, digits another). Treat each part on its own first, then check whether both parts share one combined rule.

Common patterns

  • Parallel steps: letter +2 while the number +3 each term (e.g. P3, R6, T9).
  • Position match: the number equals the letter’s alphabet position, or twice the position.
  • Block form: B3C, D5E — outer letters and middle digit each follow their own rule.
  • Two-track series: odd terms follow one rule, even terms another (less common; test when a single rule fails).
  • Reverse alphabet: letters move backward while numbers increase, or the opposite.

How to solve fast

  1. Split the term into letter(s) and number(s); write alphabet positions for letters.
  2. Compute differences or ratios on numbers separately from letter steps.
  3. For sandwich forms (A3B), label outer and inner parts before merging the rules.
  4. If two answers look possible, state the simplest rule that fits all given terms.
