Concept Explanation

Statement-and-conclusion items give a short statement (fact, rule, or situation) and ask what can be logically inferred. Use only what the statement says—do not use outside assumptions or general knowledge.

Common patterns

  • Only X … — being X is necessary (and often sufficient) for the result; use contrapositive carefully.
  • If P then Q — P true ⇒ Q true; Q false ⇒ P false (when P is the only cause given).
  • All / No / Every — universal claims; check whether a conclusion applies to all cases or overgeneralizes.
  • Most / Some — “most” implies “some” but not “all”.

Traps to avoid

  • Converse error: “All A are B” does not mean “All B are A”.
  • Affirming the consequent: “If P then Q” and Q true does not prove P (unless P is the only way to get Q).
  • Denying the antecedent: P false does not always mean Q false unless the rule is reversible.

How to solve fast

  1. Read each conclusion as a separate yes/no against the statement alone.
  2. For I / II / Both / Neither, mark each conclusion before combining.
  3. Prefer definite inference over plausible guesses.
