Concept Explanation

Blood-relation questions describe family links in words. You translate each phrase (mother's only daughter, grandfather's only son, etc.) into a person on a small tree, then read how two people are related.

Phrases that appear often

  • Only daughter / only son: fixes a single person in that role (sister, father, self).
  • Pointing at a photo: “His mother …” refers to the person in the picture, not the speaker.
  • Chain codes: A is B's sister, B is C's mother → A is C's aunt.
  • Parent labels: mother's brother = maternal uncle; father's brother = paternal uncle.

How to solve fast

  1. Draw a tiny tree: one generation per row (grandparents → parents → children).
  2. Replace each clause with one person before moving to the next clause.
  3. Mark gender from names or pronouns when the relation depends on it (aunt vs uncle).
  4. Re-read “only” and “my” — they often mean the speaker or a unique sibling.
