In this tutorial we will learn writing C program to perform copy of one string to another string. There are multiple ways to perform this task like using library function strcpy() or using manual logics. Here we will see both the ways.
How our String copy program will work?
- Our program will take two string as an input where we will copy one string to another string.
- As we know that string is a array of characters, So to copy our logic will be like we will copy the second string character to the first string char array.
- We will starting copying after the ending of the first string character array.
- If you will strcpy() string function then you just have to paas only two string as a parameter.
- It will copy the second string into the first string
C Program to copy string without using strcpy()
#include <stdio.h> int main() { char str1[256], str2[256]; int i; printf("C program to copy one string to another string\n"); printf("Please enter a string: "); scanf("%[^\n]",str1);//taking input from users //copy character from str1 to str2 for(i=0; str1[i]!='\0'; i++) { str2[i] = str1[i]; } str2[i] = '\0'; printf("After Copying str2 = %s", str2); return 0; }
Output
Program to copy string using strcpy() function
#include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> int main() { char str1[256], str2[256]; printf("C program to copy one string to another string\n"); printf("Please enter a string: "); scanf("%[^\n]",str1);//taking input from users //copy string from str1 to str2 strcpy(str2, str1); printf("After Copying str2 = %s", str2); return 0; }
Output
