C program to calculate the power using the POW method

In this tutorial, we are going to learn to write a C program to calculate the power of any given number.

So to calculate power we require at least two numbers. One number is known as a base number and another number is known as an exponent.

Let’s see how it works.

For example, we want to calculate the 4 to the power 5.

In mathematical representation, we can represent the above statement as 4^5.

Here,

Base = 4

Exponent = 5

And the operation that happens to calculate power is

4^5 means five-time multiplication of 4

4*4*4*4*4 = 1024

How our program will behave?

  • Our program will take two integer inputs. One number will be base and another will be an exponent.
  • And to calculate Power we will use pow() method of C which is in built method present in Math.h.
  • pow(base, exp) , takes two parameter one is the base number for which we have to calculate power. And exp is the value of power.
  • If we have to calculate 3^5, pow function will look like pow(3,5)

Program in C to calculate the Power of number using pow() function

#include <math.h>
#include <stdio.h>
int main() {
  int base, exp, result;
  printf("Program to calculate Power of given number\n");
  printf("Enter a value of base:  ");
  scanf("%d",&base);
  printf("Enter a value of exponent: ");
  scanf("%d",&exp);
  result = pow(base, exp);
  printf("%d to the power %d is =  %d", base, exp, result);
  return 0;
}

Output

Program to calculate Power of given number
Enter a value of base: 3
Enter a value of exponent: 3
3 to the power 3 is =  27
